The shared connection we have to climb with the Los Angeles community was the catalyst for the creation of this new store concept” said Delaney Schweitzer, GM Arc’teryx, North America. “With Abbot Kinney, we’re creating a new expression of that climbing heritage for Los Angeles — preserving the character of an existing building while designing a flexible space that can move between retail, climbing and community programming. It’s a different kind of retail experience, grounded in the sport culture that has always defined Arc’teryx.”Built for the Climbing CommunityClimbing sits at the center of both the assortment and experience at Abbot Kinney. The store features a focused selection of Arc’teryx climbing apparel and equipment alongside a curated assortment of third-party climbing products, creating a destination built around climbers’ needs. The experience extends well beyond the product assortment. A built-in Grasshopper climbing wall can be activated for events, with routes and holds updated regularly by local partner Long Beach Rising. Nearby, the Beta Lounge features furniture from local design studio WAKA WAKA, climbing guidebooks and current issues of Alpinist and Summit Journal, inviting guests to spend time in the space and connect before or after climbing.Throughout the store, athlete features and installations bring Arc’teryx’s climbing heritage to life. Large-scale athlete imagery is paired with in-depth displays featuring photographs, artifacts, books, and written narratives that offer a closer look at the people, preparation, and determination behind significant ascents. The store will also feature Arc Presents, a rotating projection series bringing climbing films and other content into the space. An outdoor patio provides additional space for guests to gather and recharge and can be configured for workshops, small gatherings and screenings, while flexible fixtures throughout the store allow the retail floor to transform for films, workshops, talks and other events. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.Arc’teryx has built relationships with local climbing partners including ABA and Long Beach Rising (LBR), helping ground the brand’s presence in the community well before the doors opened on Abbot Kinney. Long Beach Rising will play an ongoing role in the store experience, including regularly updating routes and holds on the climbing wall and supporting the store’s selection of climb-focused third-party products. Together, these partners will shape programming from events and workshops to the in-store climbing experiences, so the space reflects the climbing culture that already exists in LA.“Our best stores are shaped by the communities they serve,” said Stephanie Jamieson, Senior Director Brand Community, North America. “We wanted to create a place that LA climbers would genuinely want to spend time in: somewhere to learn from one another, connect with the local scene and find new ways to get involved. The climbing wall, lounge, patio and programming all come back to that idea, creating a space that supports the community in ways that go well beyond shopping.Arc’teryx Abbot Kinney is located at 1116 Abbot Kinney Blvd, Venice, CA 90291, and opened to the public on Saturday, October 3.
