The USA Network started as a sports channel, launching as the Madison Square Garden Sports Network in 1977. Since its 1980 rebrand, its programming has included scripted television series. Its notable shows came particularly in the early-to-mid 2000s, where it was best known for series like Monk and Psych. Mr. Robot also remains one of the channel's most notable series. As per Deadline, the USA Network just broke an eight-year-long record drought with their new scripted series. Anna Pigeon, which debuted on August 7, is now the highest-rated USA scripted series in just under eight years. In order to achieve this record, the series averaged 2.25 million total viewers over its first three days. Its viewership success is supplemented by its social media traction. To date, the first Anna Pigeon trailer released online has boasted over 9.5 million impressions. Anna Pigeon is a TV show adaptation of the popular mystery series by novelist Nevada Barr. Each installment in the book franchise focuses on a new endeavor from the series' titular National Park ranger, who solves wilderness mysteries in National Parks across the whole United States. The USA Network TV show stars Tracy Spiridakos in the role of Anna Pigeon, and features a supporting cast including Cooper Levy, Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz, Ryan Northcott, and Jordan Sledz. This first season primarily adapts the first book in Barr's series, Track of the Cat. In many ways, Anna Pigeon comes at a perfect moment in the modern television era. With its wilderness setting and mystery genre bent, the show is almost at the intersection of the Western and detective mystery. The Western genre has been increasingly popularized by Taylor Sheridan shows like Yellowstone and Tulsa King, whereas the latter's boom is seen through Harlan Coben adaptations and more. To add on to this, Anna Pigeon also brings with it decades of book fans who have been following Barr's series since its origin in the '90s. As such, the USA series sits at this perfect nexus of outdoorsy Western, thrilling mystery, and book-to-television brilliance. There is something to this combination, as the series is a smash hit so far. This success could be game-changing for USA. There are over a dozen books in Barr's book series, so there are plenty of opportunities to continue Anna Pigeon beyond this first season. Anna Pigeon continues weekly on the USA Network on Fridays at 10pm ET.
