AMD Sends In More HDMI FRL Updates For Linux 7.4, Fixes For Upcoming Hardware

Linux 7.4 is set to be a very exciting holiday gift for AMD Radeon graphics customers. As covered last week on Phoronix, with this next kernel AMD Is enabling HDMI 2.1 support by default now that FreeSync, VRR, and ALLM support is included too. This week another round of AMDGPU kernel graphics driver updates were sent out ahead of the Linux 7.4 merge window in October. AMDGPU maintainer Alex Deucher on Thursday sent out the latest batch of feature updates for the driver to DRM-Next. On the HDMI FRL side there is a fix for audio enabling and improved code test coverage including for HDMI. This week's round of changes also include fixes and other updates for upcoming AMD graphics hardware covering their GFX12.1 graphics block, Display Core Next 6 (DCN6) display engine, and other IP updates. For RDNA1/GFX10 hardware is also a CU occupancy reporting finally wired up for the AMDKFD compute driver. There still is another two weeks or so before the cut-off of new Direct Rendering Manager feature material wanting to get on the Linux 7.4 train. Linux 7.4 stable in turn should be out right around the end of the calendar year.
