AMC's Underrated Horror Show Set In Anne Rice's Immortal Universe Is Now On Netflix

Iconic characters from Anne Rice's most famous books came to television in 2022, and the first show was enough of a success that AMC's Immortal Universe expanded to three shows in just three years. Not all three of the shows found the same levels of success, however, and Talamasca: The Secret Order was cancelled after one season. Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches are still going strong. The good news is that the cancelled show remains part of the Immortal Universe canon, and Netflix has officially made it easier for fans to watch all three shows together as intended. Talamasca: The Secret Order joined Anne Rice's Immortal Universe in late 2025, after two seasons each had aired of Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches. The third entry received the smallest episode order of any season of the three, however, with only six episodes of what is now the first and only season. Fortunately, as of August 23, all six episodes are now available streaming with a Netflix subscription, as well as the first two seasons of the sister shows. Viewers can still watch the entire saga up until the point that Talamasca: The Secret Order joined the universe. The third season of Interview with the Vampire didn't release until 2026, after Talamasca had already ended. Talamasca: The Secret Order was a supernatural spy thriller that followed the stories of the clandestine organization of the same name, which played a part in Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches before the spinoff kicked off. Nicholas Denton starred as Guy Anatole, a telepath recruited to join the organization. The rest of the main cast was filled out by Celine Buckens, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, William Fichter, and Elizabeth McGovern. How Talamasca: The Secret Order Connects To Anne Rice's Interview With The Vampire Even though Talamasca: The Secret Order aired on AMC between seasons of Interview with the Vampire and monsters after Mayfair Witches season 2, there were still connections to the two other shows. Most notably, Interview with the Vampire cast members Justin Kirk and Eric Bogosian crossed over to reprise their roles as Raglan James and Daniel Molloy, respectively. Additionally, Talamasca co-showrunner Mark Lafferty wrote an episode of Mayfair Witches' second season, which aired early in 2025. Better Call Saul executive producer Mark Johnson filled that role on Talamasca, as well as Mayfair Witches and Interview with the Vampire. Talamasca, as an in-universe organization, was present in both of the earlier shows prior to the spinoff's premiere in 2025. Speaking with Screen Rant ahead of the premiere, Lafferty explained how he and co-showrunner John Lee Hancock were using Talamasca: The Secret Order to expand on how the organization had been featured in Mayfair Witches and Interview with the Vampire: So, the Talamasca does show up in, as John said, some of Anne Rice's books, and it shows up a little bit in Mayfair Witches, but the way that you see it in Mayfair, it's just New Orleans, and a little bit of Amsterdam. I think what John's idea was from the start, and what we have explored in season 1, is, "Okay, you got a little taste of that thing, you got a little look at the sunlight in the door, and now we're kicking the door right open, and we're saying, 'This is your every day. We're going to take you from the world of just vampires and just witches to this organization that actually has to keep the peace between all those people and the rest of the mortal world. The release order of the three shows meant that they didn't cross over in any kind of multi-part event, but Talamasca worked to both expand the scale of the Immortal Universe and tie Interview with the Vampire and Mayfair Witches together a bit more. On the whole, the show's cancellation doesn't make season 1 any less valuable to the larger TV universe, and well worth watching now that the wait has begun for new seasons of the two surviving series. Why Talamasca: The Secret Order Was Cancelled After Season 1 AMC waited nearly four months after the season 1 finale of Talamasca: The Secret Order in November 2025 to officially cancel it. The cancellation news came not too long before Interview with the Vampire's fourth season premiered on AMC. The network did not explain precisely why the Immortal Universe show was cancelled, a statement from an AMC spokesperson (via Variety) indicated that it was not because the Talamasca organization wasn't interesting enough for the franchise. The spokesperson said: While we are not proceeding with another season of ‘Talamasca: The Secret Order,’ we are proud of the series and grateful for the efforts of everyone involved. The Talamasca has a storied place within the Anne Rice Immortal Universe, and we expect to see at least some of these characters, and the organization itself, in future expressions of the franchise. Considering that Talamasca: The Secret Order has the second-highest Rotten Tomatoes score of the franchise (between Interview with the Vampire as the highest-scored and Mayfair Witches as the lowest-scored), the critical reception doesn't seem like the likely cause for the cancellation either. The problem may have simply been low viewership. After all, Talamasca doesn't have the same recognition as Interview with a Vampire or Mayfair Witches, both of which adapt some of Anne Rice's most popular novels. Talamasca does draw on elements from Rice's books, but isn't a straightforward adaptation. If there's an upside to Talamasca: The Secret Order getting cancelled after just one season, it's that the Immortal Universe is continuing with Mayfair Witches and Interview with the Vampire, so there's still every chance for characters from the cancelled spinoff to appear in the ongoing shows. Plus, the availability streaming on Netflix now means that it can remain just as relevant as the other two.
