All Upcoming Florence Pugh Movies, Including Avengers Doomsday

Her published work spans news, interviews, features, and opinion pieces, with a focus on film, franchise storytelling, and the entertainment industry. She earned her bachelor's degree in Communications with a concentration in Professional Writing and a minor in Business Writing from Southern New Hampshire University. Florence Pugh will appear in two films opening on December 18, 2026, returning as both Yelena Belova and Princess Irulan. Her upcoming roles also include identical twins, a woman exploring lives she could have lived, and the younger version of a character played by Annette Bening. Alongside those acting commitments, she is producing several adaptations, taking responsibility for getting the stories to the screen before stepping in front of the camera. Pugh’s breakthrough came in Lady Macbeth, playing a neglected wife whose affair leads her to murder. In 2019, she played wrestler Paige in Fighting with My Family, grieving student Dani in Midsommar, and Amy March in Little Women. The last earned her an Oscar nomination, with scenes that allowed Amy to explain the financial necessity of marriage and refuse Laurie’s treatment of her as a substitute for Jo. Pugh continued taking on emotionally complicated roles within Marvel, playing Yelena Belova in Black Widow and Thunderbolts. Though, her announced projects stretch back further than those next releases. In 2020, Pugh signed on to play a hotel maid who discovers a guest’s body; a year later, she was attached to play a robot accused of murdering its owner who asks for a lawyer. Neither has a confirmed release date or filming schedule, so her returns as Yelena and Irulan will reach theaters first. Whether those older projects move forward remains an open question. 8 Avengers: Doomsday Florence Pugh will return as Yelena Belova in Avengers: Doomsday, opening December 18, 2026. Disney's official film page confirms her casting alongside Thunderbolts co-stars Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman. Anthony and Joe Russo will direct, with Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom. At the end of Thunderbolts, Valentina introduces Yelena and her teammates as the New Avengers and claims credit for their rescue of New York. The post-credits scene jumps forward 14 months, when the team learns that Sam Wilson is challenging their use of the Avengers name. Their discussion is interrupted by an alert about a spacecraft approaching Earth with the Fantastic Four’s logo on its hull. Yelena helped save New York by reaching Bob when nobody else could. Doomsday will put her opposite Doctor Doom, with Thor and the Fantastic Four also joining the cast, though Marvel has not revealed what part she will play in the fight. 7 Dune: Part Three Princess Irulan agrees to marry Paul Atreides to save her father’s life in Dune: Part Two. Paul gains a claim through the imperial family he has defeated, while Irulan becomes the wife of a man who loves Chani. Pugh’s return will revisit a marriage negotiated in front of the defeated emperor, with neither affection nor trust behind it. Nearly two decades will have passed when Dune: Part Three begins. According to the synopsis, Paul’s rule has made enemies of former allies, and Chani’s return draws him into a conspiracy. Irulan may be his wife, but the woman he wanted to apparently marry still has his attention. Denis Villeneuve returns to direct, with the film opening December 18, 2026. In Frank Herbert’s Dune Messiah, Irulan conspires against Paul despite their marriage, giving Pugh a potential role in the betrayal he faces. Though, the adaptation has not confirmed whether it will follow that storyline. 6 Avengers: Secret Wars Avengers: Doomsday will not be Pugh’s last Avengers appearance, according to her September 2026 Vanity Fair profile, which names Avengers: Secret Wars among her next projects. The Russo brothers will return to direct the sequel, scheduled for December 17, 2027, leaving a year between the two films. In Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić’s 2015 Secret Wars comic, Doctor Doom saves fragments of destroyed universes and makes himself god of the world he builds from them. Heroes live under his rule on Battleworld, often without remembering their previous lives. The film has not confirmed whether Yelena will face that same fate. Pugh’s return does not give much up in terms of how Yelena gets through Doomsday, or whether she does at all. Marvel has brought characters back through flashbacks and alternate universes before, so her casting alone gives away little about where the first film leaves her. 5 42.6 Years Image credit: © A24/courtesy Everett Collection In 42.6 Years, Andy Samberg plays Ben, who undergoes an experimental procedure and wakes up after 42.6 years in cryogenic suspension. He wants to reconnect with his ex-girlfriend, Ruthie, but she has spent those decades growing older while he has stayed the same age. Annette Bening plays the older Ruthie, and Pugh plays her younger self. Discussing the role with Vanity Fair, Pugh called Bening a hero. Pugh plays the Ruthie Ben remembers, while Bening plays the woman who has spent four decades without him. The film has not many details of how much of their relationship it will revisit before Ben wakes up. Michael Schwartz directs from a screenplay by Seth Reiss, who co-wrote The Menu. In Palm Springs, Samberg’s character falls in love while repeating the same day. Here, Ben has missed decades of Ruthie’s life and wants to pick up where they left off. PlayList reported that filming began in New York in 2026, but no release date has been announced. 4 The Midnight Library Florence Pugh will star as Nora Seed and produce The Midnight Library, an adaptation of Matt Haig’s novel. Nora finds herself between life and death in a library where each book lets her enter a life she could have lived, giving her a chance to revisit the decisions she regrets. Studiocanal's announcement names Garth Davis as director, with Laura Wade and Nick Payne writing the screenplay. Payne previously wrote We Live in Time, which starred Pugh opposite Andrew Garfield. Davis also worked with Pugh on East of Eden. Paramount acquired North American distribution rights and selected international territories, according to Screen Daily. Filming is expected to begin in 2027, but the studio has not announced when the film will reach theaters. 3 Cassandra at the Wedding In Cassandra at the Wedding, Florence Pugh will play identical twins who want very different things from Judith’s wedding day. Judith intends to get married, while Cassandra returns to their family’s California ranch determined to stop her. Adapted from Dorothy Baker’s 1962 novel, the story follows Cassandra’s refusal to accept that her sister wants a life they will no longer share. India Donaldson will direct, with Pugh also coproducing. Speaking to Vanity Fair in September 2026, Pugh described taking on the two roles as “totally terrifying but exciting.” Cassandra sees the marriage as losing her sister. Judith wants to marry without having to give Cassandra up. Pugh will play both women as they try to settle that disagreement before the ceremony. Neither a filming schedule nor a release date has been announced. 2 The Maid Florence Pugh is attached to star in and produce Universal’s adaptation of Nita Prose’s The Maid, announced in December 2020 (via Deadline). She will play Molly, a hotel maid who discovers a wealthy guest’s body. In the novel, Molly becomes a murder suspect, with her difficulty reading social cues complicating police questioning. People she trusts also take advantage of her, leaving her to uncover what happened. The adaptation has no confirmed filming schedule or release date. 1 Dolly Credit: Netflix Apple acquired Dolly in February 2021 with Florence Pugh attached to star, according to TheWrap. Based on Elizabeth Bear’s short story, it follows a robotic companion who kills her owner, claims innocence, and requests a lawyer. Her demand raises the question of whether she can be tried as a person rather than treated as property. Vanessa Taylor and Drew Pearce were announced as screenwriters. The acquisition starring Florence Pugh placed the movie in development, with no production green light or release date confirmed.
