Based on Heller’s 2012 from a script by Mark L. Smith, The Dog Stars follows mechanic-turned-pilot Hig (Jacob Elordi), who goes in search of survivors of a deadly flu pandemic and blood virus after living quietly in an abandoned airship with Bangley (Josh Brolin), who does not have as much hope in humanity as Hig. The film opens with Hozier’s “Like Real People Do,” and later on, when Hig meets Cima (Margaret Qualley), he plays Caamp’s “By and By” for her on headphones because she says she misses music and dancing in the post-pandemic world.
