After decades of activism and trailblazing, journalist and feminist icon Gloria Steinem has died at the age of 92. According to an announcement on her social media channels, Gloria “passed away peacefully at her home in New York City, surrounded by some of the many who loved her” on September 2.Gloria has been a pioneer in media and in the feminist movement since the ’60s, when she published an exposé about the harsh working conditions while working undercover as a bunny at Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Club. After that, she wrote and reported for publications like New York Magazine, Glamour, Seventeen, and Cosmopolitan during the Helen Gurley Brown era.She simultaneously celebrated and criticized Cosmo’s place in the feminist movement during an interview with The New York Times in 1974, saying, “Cosmopolitan was a step forward from the formula of the traditional magazines that if you got divorced or had affairs before marriage, you would come to a bad end…If one magazine says women are sexual, it’s an improvement.
