Albania’s Cannabis Traffic is No Longer Only One-Way

Albanian authorities have intercepted three cannabis shipments from Canada over the last three months, seizing more than 230 kilograms. At Tirana Airport in July, police found 46 kilos of cannabis in gelatine form in passenger luggage, just over two weeks after the first direct flight from Toronto landed in Tirana. Authorities made the other two seizures at Durres Port in vehicles shipped from Canada. In August, police found about 80 kilos hidden in a specially modified vehicle. In September, they found another 107.7 kilos behind wooden panels in a camper, packed in a container with two other vehicles. A decade ago, this direction of trafficking would have seemed unlikely.
