‘AISA seeks FIR over alleged death threats to national president Neha Bora in UP

File | Photo Credit: PTI The All India Students’ Association (AISA) has approached the Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, seeking registration of an FIR over alleged death threats issued to its national president Neha Bora, who is travelling across the State as part of the organisation’s ‘GenZ Rising’ campaign.In a complaint dated September 15, accessed by The Hindu, AISA general secretary Prasenjeet Kumar said several messages containing “explicit threats of violence” and abusive and objectionable language had been received on one of the organisation’s official contact numbers.According to the complaint, the sender also sent multiple voice notes containing threatening statements. In one of the voice messages, the individual allegedly said “uska maut pakka hai” (“her death is certain”), prompting the student organisation to raise concerns about Ms. Neha’s safety while she is travelling in Uttar Pradesh.AISA said the messages amounted to a serious threat to the safety of its national president and alleged that they were intended to intimidate a young leader involved in grassroots student mobilisation.In its complaint to the Uttar Pradesh DGP, the organisation sought immediate registration of an FIR, identification and tracing of the person using the number from which the messages were sent, and preservation and examination of call and message records and voice notes. It also requested legal action under applicable provisions of law.The organisation has also sought measures to ensure Ms. Neha’s safety and security and prevent any further threats or acts of violence. Screenshots of the messages and the voice notes were shared by the complainant.AISA, in a separate statement, condemned the alleged threats and said it would continue its ‘GenZ Rising’ campaign despite the incident. The organisation also called for action against those responsible and urged the authorities to ensure the safety of its leaders and activists travelling across Uttar Pradesh.
