Air Canada will not resume its service from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Mumbai Airport (BOM) next year, as the airline restructures its Indian operations. The Star Alliance carrier has historically maintained the service to Mumbai with a stop en route at London Heathrow Airport (LHR). Data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, shows that the service to Mumbai has been operated with a mix of both the airline's Boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft. It was last served in March 2026. The Indian flag carrier will serve the route instead, with Air Canada deploying its aircraft elsewhere. Air Canada's service to Mumbai, as previously mentioned, operated as a one-stop service via London, providing an extension to the airline's existing robust network of flights through the British capital. Why Air Canada Flies To India Credit: Vytautas Kielaitis | Shutterstock Air Canada maintains flights to India due to strong family, cultural, and trade ties between the two countries. There is a large Indian diaspora in Canada, and there are an estimated 800,000 people with Indian heritage who reside in the Greater Toronto area, according to the website Indians In Canada. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also set to visit Toronto in December. Strong trade ties fuel a large part of the airline's demand to serve India, and with ongoing restrictions on Russian airspace access, this has forced the airline to reroute service, such as through London Heathrow for its Mumbai link. Air Canada has had a long history of serving India, having served the country on and off again for many decades. Its latest modern nonstop service began in 2015, when the airline began its service from Toronto to Delhi.
