Agriculture ministry signs aflaj maintenance agreements worth OMR3.4 Million in North Al Sharqiyah

Ibra: Represented by the Directorate General of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources on Monday signed agreements worth more than OMR3.4 million to implement the second stage of Aflaj maintenance in the governorate, which recently suffered the impacts of "Al Massarat" low pressure.The signing ceremony was held under the auspices of Mahmood bin Yahya Al Dhuhli, Governor of North A'Sharqiyah. The agreements provide for the restoration of 155 Aflaj. The maintenance tasks include the removal of silt, sand and debris from the damaged Aflaj, the replacement of roofing for some Aflaj and the construction of new supply channels where deemed necessary."Al Massarat" depression had a heavy toll on the system of Aflaj across the wilayats of the governorate. The Aflaj scheduled for restoration in the second stage constitute 36 percent of the total active number of Aflaj in the governorate.
