Published Oct 28, 2026, 3:36 PM EDT Simon is a Computer Science BSc graduate who has been writing about technology since 2014, and using Windows machines since 3.1. After working for an indie game studio and acting as the family's go-to technician for all computer issues, he found his passion for writing and decided to use his skill set to write about all things tech. Since beginning his writing career, he has written for many different publications such as WorldStart, Listverse, and MakeTechEasier. However, after finding his home at MakeUseOf in February 2019, he would eventually move on to its sister site, XDA, to bring the latest and greatest in Windows, Linux, and DIY electronics. Microsoft is scaling back Copilot to focus on quality over rapid expansion. Back at the turn of 2025, we saw the big announcement that Microsoft would be bringing its Copilot assistant to smart TVs. It was back when the company's game plan seemed to be to go wide and fast, establishing footholds in major tech channels before its competitors could. However, it didn't seem to pan out, and Microsoft is now scaling back its Copilot rollout to focus on quality over quantity. A new message has reportedly appeared on LG TVs, announcing that the Redmond giant is removing Copilot from all smart TVs. Microsoft is rolling back Copilot from all smart TVs Not just LG TV ones Za Bowden over on Windows Central first spotted this message while using his LG TV. It popped up from the side and informed him that the end of Copilot's time on his TV was nigh: "We would like to inform you that Microsoft has recently decided to end support for Copilot functionality on all TVs, including the Copilot-enabled feature available on our LG TVs. As a result, the Copilot-enabled feature on your TV is no longer available and may stop functioning shortly." Take special note of the wording in the first half of the first sentence. Microsoft isn't just pulling the plug on LG TVs: the statement claims it's ending support for "Copilot functionality on all TVs," which includes LG TVs. As such, we should see similar statements arrive from other smart TV manufacturers that adopted Copilot. The message doesn't say the specific date when Copilot will lose support; all it says is that it should happen sometime in 2026. That gives people just a few months of use before it's gone for good, but I can't imagine too many people will be distraught by this change.
