Adoor SI suspended over ‘unholy nexus’ with history-sheeter

A sub-inspector attached to the Adoor police station has been placed under suspension for allegedly taking the help of a person on the police’s rowdy list while attempting to arrest an accused in an attempt to murder case in Karunagappally. The action against the police officer Jinu follows an oral inquiry ordered into the incident. The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Thiruvananthapuram range, subsequently issued the suspension order.The departmental inquiry found that Mr. Jinu had taken along Sarath, who had been booked under the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA), to assist the police team in apprehending the accused. Sarath is also on the police’s rowdy list and is an accused in several criminal cases.The police team had gone to Karunagappally in connection with an attempt to murder case registered at the Adoor police station. The case relates to a clash that broke out recently at an engineering college in Adoor. The incident came to light after the Adoor police team, which had reached Karunagappally in plain clothes to arrest the accused, was attacked by a group of women. The group allegedly obstructed the police action, leading to a scuffle. Four persons have been arrested in connection with the attack.The episode prompted a departmental inquiry, following concerns over the conduct of the police team. “An oral inquiry was initiated against the official on charges of misconduct, gross indiscipline and an unholy nexus with a history-sheeter. Based on the inquiry, a recommendation was made to place the official under suspension,” said district police chief R. Anand.This is the second time Mr. Jinu has faced suspension from service.
