Accor Is Betting on Asia. Just Not the Same Way Everywhere

In China, the hotel giant is leaning on H World to help double its footprint to 1,600 hotels. In India, it is looking for new partners. In Vietnam, major developers are driving an unexpected surge in signings. And across the region, conversions and franchising are increasingly helping Accor tap into existing hotel supply. China is where Accor is leaning most heavily into partnerships. While scale is what connects them all, how Accor gets there is being increasingly dictated by the market. “China, India, Vietnam are very big for us,” Duncan O’Rourke, the company’s CEO for Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific, told Skift. But the development models to capture those opportunities are markedly different. Accor signed almost 11,000 rooms in Asia last year, with roughly 70% in midscale and economy.
