Abused us, tried dragging us inside the car: Delhi student recounts night of horror

A Delhi student alleged that a man and his companions in a black Safari harassed her and her friend and tried to pull them into the vehicle near Hakikat Park. Delhi Police traced the car, identified the driver as Naman Kumar and registered an FIR at Mukherjee Nagar police station.Image used for representation purposeA female student in Delhi’s Mukherjee Nagar has alleged that a man in a black Safari first passed obscene comments at her and abused her and her friend before the vehicle followed them and its occupants tried to pull them inside the car.The incident allegedly took place near Hakikat Park at around 9.30 pm on September 23.The student, in a video posted on social media, said she was with her friend when the black Safari approached them, lowered its window and the occupants started passing obscene remarks.“When I said please move on, the accused got offended and started abusing both me and my friend,” she said. She alleged that when she and her friend started leaving the spot, the car followed them. “When we stopped to make a video, the car stopped and tried dragging us inside the car,” she claimed.The student said her friend took out her phone, following which the car fled. The two then went to a nearby police station, but were allegedly told that the area did not fall under its jurisdiction.“In the last four to five hours, we have tried from place to another but couldn't register our complaint,” the student claimed in the video.Delhi Police said a written complaint regarding an eve-teasing incident near Hakikat Park, located near Delhi University’s North Campus, was received from a female complainant during the intervening night of September 23 and 24.During the inquiry, police traced the car to its registered owner and found that a man identified as Naman Kumar was driving it. He was accompanied by two to three other people, police said.An FIR was subsequently registered at Mukherjee Nagar police station. A case has been registered under Sections 78 (stalking), 79 (Word, Gesture or Act Intended to Insult the Modesty of a Woman) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Criminal Act Done by Several Persons in Furtherance of Common Intention).Further investigation is underway, police said.- EndsPublished On: Sep 24, 2026 17:18 IST
