He has been writing and podcasting about pop culture (especially horror movies) for over a decade at platforms including Blumhouse, Fangoria, Dread Central, The Backlot, and Arrow in the Head. ABC's hit series Will Trent is kicking off a new era soon. The police procedural series, which was created by Liz Heldens and Daniel Thomsen based on the Karin Slaughter book series of the same name, stars Ramón Rodríguez in the title role as a dyslexic Special Agent in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The show, which has been nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards, features an ensemble cast that also includes Erika Christensen (Swimfan), Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin), Iantha Richardson (American Soul), Jake McLaughlin (In the Valley of Elah), and Kevin Daniels (Modern Family). So far, the show has run on ABC for four seasons since it debuted on January 3, 2023. The upcoming Will Trent season 5, which was renewed in April before the finale of season 4 even aired, does not yet have an official release date, though it will probably arrive midseason like the previous installments, in either January or February. In addition to its airings on ABC, the show is also available on streaming via the subscription services Hulu and Disney+ (both of which are owned by Disney, which also owns ABC). Will Trent Is About To Kick Off Its Netflix Era Scratch & Peek Identify the cover art while scratching off as little foil as possible. A new listing on Netflix has officially revealed that Will Trent will venture further from its streaming home than it ever has, with seasons 1 through 4 arriving on the rival platform on November 3. The show's first four seasons will be available on Netflix both in the U.S. and internationally on that day, and they are expected to continue being available on Disney+ and Hulu during the period in which they will be on Netflix. According to the listing, Netflix is positioning it as a companion to similar series of theirs, including The Lincoln Lawyer and Dark Winds. The arrival of Will Trent on Netflix is part of an expanded licensing agreement that Disney recently signed with the streaming platform. Largely in an effort to promote upcoming seasons of some of their shows by exposing the original seasons to Netflix's wider subscriber base (which is more than 325 million individuals, making Netflix the biggest streaming service worldwide at the time of writing), Disney has allowed Netflix to temporarily license shows like the fantasy series Percy Jackson and the Olympians, the original five Ice Age movies, and the ABC sitcom Shifting Gears. Where Does Season 4 Leave The Hit Series? Credit: Disney This Netflix availability will be coming at a particularly good time for the show, as Will Trent season 4 raised the stakes considerably. The season featured the deaths of both GBI Deputy Director Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn) and Dr. Seth McDale (Scott Foley), the father of Angie's (Christensen) child, who was born in the season finale. The episode also featured Trent and Michael Ormewood (McLaughlin) partnering up to take on the sex trafficking case that formed a major throughline of the season and remains unresolved. This heartstring-yanking cliffhanger ending could very well funnel many Netflix subscribers toward ABC, Disney+, and Hulu when Will Trent season 5 airs. Another benefit of this November 3 streaming date is the fact that it comes during a relatively quiet week for the streaming platform, as they will still be ramping up their holiday and awards season offerings.
