45,000 teacher vacancies to be filled in Odisha in 3 years: CM Mohan Charan Majhi

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced that the state government will fill 45,000 vacant teaching posts in schools over the next three years.Majhi made the announcement at a Teachers’ Day event at Secondary Board High School in Cuttack on Saturday, where he spoke about the role of teachers, education reforms and the responsibilities of students.“The state government will fill up 45,000 teaching vacancies in schools across the state over the next three years,” Majhi said.LESS SCROLLING, MORE STUDYINGDuring his interaction with students, Majhi, who worked as a teacher before entering politics, urged them not to spend too much time on social media. “Please do not waste too much time on social media, and instead focus on building careers,” he told students.He said students’ primary responsibility was to develop strong academic skills and contribute to their own future as well as the country’s development. Majhi also said education should go beyond imparting knowledge and should help shape individuals.FROM KG TO PGThe Chief Minister highlighted several measures being taken by his government in the education sector.He said Odisha was the first state in the country to introduce the ‘KG to PG’ free education scheme.The government is also building 2,200 Godavarish Mishra Adarsha Pratamika Vidyalayas at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore, he said. In addition, 45,000 nursery schools have been opened for pre-school children.Majhi also reiterated the government’s plans to provide mid-day meals and textbooks to students in Classes 9 and 10.Another initiative he mentioned was the Shahid Madho Singh Hath Kharcha Yojana, aimed at supporting tribal students and helping reduce school dropout rates.A TRIBUTE TO TEACHERSThe event also marked the birth anniversary of former President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, observed as National Teachers’ Day.Majhi spoke about the traditional Guru-Shishya relationship and the role teachers have played in shaping prominent figures throughout history.Citing former President APJ Abdul Kalam, he said that even while holding the country’s highest office, Kalam took pride in identifying himself as a teacher.The Chief Minister also felicitated teachers during the programme, which combined the Teachers’ Day celebrations with the announcement of the state’s recruitment and education plans.- EndsPublished By: India Today Web Desk Published On: Sep 5, 2026 14:54 IST
