32-year-old man arrested for sexually assaulting girl in Ennore

The All Women Police, Ennore, on Monday arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a two-and-a-half-year-old girl from Ennore on two occasions earlier this month.According to the police, on October 23, the girl was taken to the Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Egmore due to health issues. After examining her, the doctor suspected that she might have been sexually assaulted.The Inspector of the All-Women Police Station, Ennore initiated an investigation. A case was registered following a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother under Sections- 5 (Aggravated penetrative sexual assault), 6 (Punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. During the investigation, the police arrested D. Ranjithkumar, 32, a resident of the same locality, on Monday.The investigation revealed that the accused had allegedly taken the girl, who was playing outside, into his house and sexually assaulted her on October 15 and 17. The assaults had severely affected the child’s health, the police said.The accused was subsequently remanded in judicial custody. The girl is currently undergoing treatment in hospital.
