Sign in to your ScreenRant account Netflix subscribers are in for a weekend of different genres on the streaming service, as every movie on this list promises to offer a unique, but equally exciting experience, with something for everyone. On last weekend's Netflix movie recommendations I talked about Untold Raygun: Breaking Badly, Ready Or Not, and Jarhead. The last two were to get the viewers' blood pumping. None of those movies are currently trending on Netflix's Top 10 Movies chart in the United States. With that in mind, I decided to break away from that two-punch thriller combo we had on the list for the first weekend of September. While I made sure to include a thriller from one of the biggest creators in Hollywood, there is only one entry from the genre. That film is joined by an animated fantasy epic that I personally believe to be one of the medium's biggest masterpieces. The other live-action movie on our Netflix recommendations for the second weekend of September is a romance. This way, we break patterns and provide different options for varied types of viewers. If you are open to an eclectic weekend on Netflix, watch all three. For those who are not, each of these movies are strong individually. Another attractive point to them is just how many stars one can find on Netflix this weekend. From Oscar nominee Wagner Moura to Oscar winner Angelina Jolie, and many more, these three movies are simply brimming with talent, and they bring exciting stories to help those actors stand out. Here are the Netflix movie recommendations: 3 Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022) I'd like to start with the only animated movie on the list. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is a masterpiece. While still having a young audience in mind, this is an incredibly mature fantasy film that will speak to adults, with plenty of emotional lessons. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is the perfect movie for parents to watch with their kids this weekend on the streaming service. While the kids will marvel at the artistry on display, the vibrant character designs, and the hilarious situations, older viewers will find that Puss in Boots: The Last Wish tells a nuanced story of what one does when faced with their own mortality. The Shrek spin-off film boasts a near-perfect 95% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a similar 94% audience score. Antonio Banderas delivers his best and most complex turn as Puss, with Wagner Moura's Death being genuinely terrifying. 2 Why Did I Get Married Again? (2026) To lighten the mood a bit is the Tyler Perry sequel Why Did I Get Married Again? Perry is a major name in streaming, with several movies he either stars in or directs exploding on different streaming services over the past few years, which indicates how Netflix subscribers might want to give this romance a try. Why Did I Get Married Again? was just released on Netflix on Wednesday, September 9. It only took the romance a day on the streaming service to become the most-watched movie on Netflix in the United States, showing that if you have yet to watch Perry's latest, you are one of the few who have not done so already. Why Did I Get Married Again? is the third movie in a trilogy that started with 2007's Why Did I Get Married? It brings back franchise stars like Perry, Michael Jai White, Sharon Leal, Tasha Smith, and more, as a destination wedding in Italy shakes loose some old secrets. 1 Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021) Taylor Sheridan has made a TV empire for himself with several Yellowstone shows, but the creator continues to excel with thrillers, be they of the crime, spy, or action variety. In terms of movies, Sheridan has proved that in spades through releases like Sicario, Tom Clancy's Without Remorse, and more. 2021's Those Who Wish Me Dead, the 2nd most-watched movie on Netflix in the United States, is yet another must-watch from the creator. Those Who Wish Me Dead has an 86% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Those Who Wish Me Dead comes with a star-studded cast that features names like Angelina Jolie, Jon Bernthal, Nicholas Hoult, Aidan Gillen, and even Why Did I Get Married Again?'s Tyler Perry, with the latter creating connective tissue between the last two entries on our list. It is a story about survival, as Jolie's Hannah protects a young boy from hit men hired to kill him. It presents visceral action, with an intense atmosphere, and captivating performances. As such, Those Who Wish Me Dead is a thrilling movie to end the weekend on Netflix.
