2 deaths recorded in Olongapo due to leptospirosis

INQUIRER files OLONGAPO CITY — As flooding persisted in several areas in this city, two people died of leptospirosis, based on data from the Olongapo City Health Office. As of Sept. 3, the city had recorded 27 leptospirosis cases, of which 18 remained active. Fourteen of the active cases were admitted at hospitals, four were being treated as outpatients, while seven patients have recovered from the disease. Article continues after this advertisement The local government and the city health office reminded residents to avoid wading or playing in floodwaters, especially if they have open wounds. The health office said free doxycycline was available at its office and at all barangay health centers for residents who had been submerged in floodwaters or those might need to wade through floods again.
